Mission to Seafarers

Seafarers are a critical stakeholder of X-Press Feeders, and we recognise their dedication and sacrifice in keeping the global sea lanes running.  Life at sea can be difficult, so we have partnered with Mission to Seafarers for many years to support seafarers who are in need.

The Mission is on call day and night for 365 days per year, providing help to seafarers in over 200 ports around the world. Seafarers need our help because they are often working in dangerous conditions, with no one else to turn to.

In 2021, the mission performed 34,629 ship visits, encountering 173,155 seafarers on board their vessels. The mission received 23,629 visits across their 121 centres, with 12,131 seafarers having used their transport services. The mission also recorded 6,623 welfare cases assisting seafarers and their families.

Future Hope

In the last two decades many things have moved on in India, yet thousands of children still live on the streets, abused, exploited, and maimed. Future Hope responds to these problems by taking the most vulnerable children who have no family capable of caring for them into one of their homes, whilst also offering them and children from the poorest families in the slums an all-rounded education at the Future Hope School. Their aim is to help the children overcome their poor start in life to become independent and caring adults.

This is done through their homes, school, sports, and medical programme in Kolkata, India. The children are also taught the importance of personal hygiene and a healthy lifestyle with balanced nutrition, a good routine and activity. Future Hope offers an excellent all-rounded education and a safe nurturing environment for these children to have a childhood.

MICE - Mission College Education for under privileged students

MICE is a Collaboration between X-Press Feeders and Lifeboat Foundation. The MICE programme aims to provide college education scholarship to girls mainly from more underprivileged backgrounds such as family income of less than 1,300 USD per year, single parent, or orphans. After completing their college education, each girl will be eligible for a job in both government and private sectors with an initial salary of at least 250-300 USD per month, providing an avenue out of child marriages, while supporting household income and alleviating their families from poverty.

Currently, we are working with 3 colleges to provide this scholarship programme. All applicants must go through strict background checks, verification of documents, and interviews by the Lifeboat Foundation team. Currently we have 31 students under MICE programme, and we are looking at taking in another 40 – 45 students this year.  This is subject to thorough checks on suitability, ambition and capability of the students to succeed.

Anambas Foundation

Founded in April 2018, Anambas Foundation (AF) is an Indonesian Foundation that aims to improve the overall ecosystem in the Anambas, both underwater and terrestrial, as well as sustainably lifting the community’s welfare.

The Anambas archipelago consists of more than 255 islands across ten sub-districts and of the 45,000 people, 75-80% of them heavily rely on the ocean for their livelihood. Located in the Coral Triangle, the Anambas has outstanding marine biodiversity presenting great potential for eco-marine tourism.

Fringing reefs are easily accessible, and the water is typically clear, warm and sheltered which are ideal for both snorkeling and scuba diving. Sadly, however, the legacy of unsustainable and unregulated fishing practices by local fishermen and the industrial fishing vessels, poor solid waste management, marine debris, and deforestation are still visible in the area.

In 2022, X-Press Feeders commenced a landmark agreement with the Bawah Anambas Foundation to sponsor a long-term programme of 4+ years to eradicate plastic waste from the Anambas archipelago. The programme seeks to educate communities on proper waste sorting, creating a cleaner environment, and providing additional income for villagers via the waste bank activity. Villagers also gain additional knowledge on waste management including sorting and recycling, and the presence of the waste bank itself shows them that waste has economic value if managed properly.
