Advisory on Verified Gross Mass (VGM) guidelines

Dear Valued Customers,

Recent events in the Chittagong Trade have illuminated the issues of underdeclared containers, in breach of SOLAS Verified Gross Mass (VGM) tendered for loading to our operating vessels. The underdeclared container/cargo weights have given rise to several occasions where it seriously compromises safety standards and hampers overall cargo operations.

The consequences of such incidents from underdeclared container/cargo weights, not only lead to vessel delays and disruptions but also result in all boxes including the one directly involved, as well as other containers stowed under same bay, to be retained onboard and over-carried.

In view of the above, we would like to seek your good co-operation to strictly ensure that all containers furnished to our operating vessel comply with the weights stated in the VGM.

We and the Vessel Owners shall not be liable for any damages, penalties and claims resulting from the incorrect weights provided by the BOX operators and we seek to recover all costs, including but not limited to damages (if any) to the vessel & cargo, vessel's idle time, rehandling costs, feeder freights incurred as a result of the over-carriage and all other associated costs from said BOX operator.

Your kind understanding of above matter and strict compliance of VGM regulations is greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards,
